Secured By Design
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) established Secured by Design (SBD) in 1989 and it is supported by the Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland (ACPOS) and the Scottish Government.
Security features to prevent crime
can be incorporated in homes and commercial premises at the design
and construction stages without adding significantly to the
building costs. And using quality, approved security products can
prove even more effective in crime prevention.
Secured by Design promotes the use
of security standards in building works and a wide range of
products, applications and crime prevention projects. Those
which pass tests specified by ACPO Secured by Design are entitled
to use the Secured by Design logo and endorsement 'Police Preferred
Specification'. The licensing scheme now includes more than 350
member companies.
Jacqui Shiel, the Scottish Regional
Development Officer for Secured by Design, is based at the Scottish
Business Crime Centre and can be contacted at jacqui.shiel@acpocpi.co.uk
To make an application for a
'Secured by Design' award, and for further advice on designing out
crime, contact the Police Architectural Liaison Officer (ALO) or
Crime Prevention Design Advisor (CPDA) at the local police force
area where the development is being built.
