Perth Crime Prevention Initiative
A special display in Perth city centre will provide advice on how people can take steps to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
Crime analysis over recent years reveals that during this period of the year there is potential for a rise in house burglaries, shed break-ins, and thefts of handbags and purses.
In response, the Perth Safer Cities Initiative, Tayside Police
and St John's Shopping Centre have worked in partnership to raise
public awareness to of this type of crime.
Over a two day period recently, the partnership manned a display
table in St John's Shopping Centre where crime prevention
information was made available along with information on burglar
alarms and personal alarms, and other services that could help
visitors to the stall avoid becoming a victim.
Councillor Willie Robertson, chair of Perth and Kinross
Community Safety Partnership said: "Awareness and prevention are
the best ways to avoid becoming a victim of crime. I would
encourage people to come along to the display to find out more
about what they can do to help themselves, and what help is
available from the Council, Tayside Police and other agencies.
Community Sergeant Steve Sangster added: "Tayside Police, in
conjunction with our partner agencies, look for any opportunities
to disrupt criminals. Whilst this type of crime not a major issue
at present in Perth and Kinross, even one crime is one too many.
This partnership approach demonstrates the clear commitment we have
to raise public awareness of this particular type of crime and our
determination to take all possible steps to prevent it."
